        Asia - "Valkyrie"

See the path ahead of me
        A sacred gilded throne
The one true house that I call home
The place I will be known
        Where I belong, carry me

The earlier mention of Johnny Cash and his covers sent me on a very enjoyable musical trip this afternoon. I listened to many of the original artists' versions as well, and in all but a few instances, there's just no comparison -- cover or not, it's a Johnny Cash song. Not with Tom Petty's "Won't Back Down," or Bruce's "Highway Patrolman," -- which is not to say that I don't love Cash's versions of those songs, because I do -- but definitely so with Sting's "I Hung My Head." I like Sting but that song belongs to Johnny Cash.

I also learned of what looks like a pretty good movie based on the song "Highway Patrolman," called The Indian Runner, starring Viggo Mortenson, Dennis Hopper, and David Morse, from 1991, about a small-town cop whose brother is one of the malcontents he has to deal with. Sad song, looks like a good movie. Movie scenes make up the video below.

It's an interesting movie, not sure about good. But, you know...Bruce.

I think it's directed by Sean Penn.

I don't recall ever hearing that particular Johnny Cash song?
...and I thought I'd heard just about all of them.
Yeah, ol Johnny could be a bit morbid from time to time.

I'll have to say this about the TGIF threads. I've dug up and heard music I never knew existed! 😯

Did you previously know that the Burning Witches existed? I sure didn't. I'm still not sure if I did right, digging that particular band up.
