Omicron seems to have started the downhill slide. Infections already fell off a cliff, deaths have had a very long plateau of a peak. A lot more dead than Delta.
Below are # of infections. Delta is that bump on the left.
and below this are the deaths.
Notice how we never really came down off Delta before taking off for omicron. I heard 40% of ICUs are people with immunocompromised systems. For perspective the lines are 200 people and the bottom of the dip between Delta and Omicron is at the 800 level.
Below is deaths per day over the last 8 weeks.
I think the peak was last week. Some 70K deaths over the last month. Lotta people. Omicron was pretty bad, though if you were vaccinated and boosted you had little to be concerned with.

A study in Washington state gathered data from over 4 million fully vaccinated people. The data showed a rate of about 1 in 5,000 experienced a breakthrough infection between January 17 and August 21, 2021. More recently, some populations have shown breakthrough infection rates of approximately 1 in 100 fully vaccinated people.
