Where is everybody ?? Don't you have any fishing, hunting, or shooting stories ? Must be a bunch of introverts.

This site has gotten very sour in the last 14 months and we've lost a few long time contributors while not picking up enough new to fill the gap.

I've gone back and deleted most of my posts from the last 10+ years in order to reduce the chance something I said being used against me in the future. While doing that, I noticed threads I've started can not be deleted. Therefore, I'm very careful and reluctant about starting new ones.
What are yo afraid of ?

What PH said, before he deleted it. This is no longer a cordial site either, which is no surprise. It just reflects what's going on in society. I used to come to Field & Stream to escape that, but here it is. Regardless, F&S just needs to kill the answers section. If they actually monitored this site at all, I think it would have been killed of 6 months ago. The political drivel is just nasty and I'm surprised they want to be associated with it.

I've had it with the COVID porn too. I ignored the two main actors, now we have another.....and I thought "I" was bad about political "stuff".

Moose1980 - recently left another blogsite. They claimed they were monitored and no political drivel.
        Well, guess what?
They ARE monitored.....and if you expressed ANY right leaning opinions, you were immediately set upon by the "locals" as an idiot and a trouble maker and reported. Political subjects were constant and thinly veiled liberalism.
Get enough "reports" and the monitor "banned"(censored?) you from the site.
Basically saying, "We ARE liberal and will not tolerate your conservative views."

Moose1980 - in this day and time, it's refreshing to be able to come to a website where anyone can express their political views without fear of censoring or monitoring.
At the same time, one must also realize their view may draw the ire of others.
          But you know what Moose1980?
This IS America! We have the First Amendment! WE have the right to speak our minds without reservation.
By the same token, we don't have to listen to those with whom we disagree.

Moose, good to see you are still kicking. I did not see what PH posted. He has said numerous times he is interested in singing and other things so not interested in what the current topics are.
The two posts with most activities are the Covid and the Political environment. When there are hunting, fishing or other outdoor posts I am sure they will be viewed.
Anything that is not of interest, just scroll on by. I don't listen to those who are not civil or are bullying.
There is a lot of good info available here, just have to navigate through the weeds.
There are members who highjack a thread, deflect and just plain blather and I just ignore them.

It seems we’ve been having this same discussion for a couple years now, maybe even before the last site overhaul. It is what it is.

Don’t take this the wrong way guys, it’s purely an observation and not a judgment. Some of the problem stems from a certain segment of us having too much free time on their hands. Posts get started just for the sake of posting, not to actually discuss anything truly interesting. When you combine that with the pot stirrers it’s no wonder interest wanes.

jhjimbo’s RC plane video was an exception, stuff like that is very cool.

I like your explanation fitch270. That's about as succinctly stated as it gets.
                  Thanks! I'm not offended.

I get into some of the political posts and can't condemn them in general. However, the way the site is set up, the "recent posts" and "trending" columns in the margin often make it look like there's nothing going on but Spam and politics -- and those columns are likely what a newcomer looks at first.

And even some more experienced users may not realize that: (a) the "trending" thing is never accurate; and (b) just one user with a couple things on their mind can fill up the "recent posts" at any given time, even when other threads are fairly active. It took me quite a while to get used to checking each individual category for recent threads that had dropped off the main screen only because of one post made in a different thread.

Several of the hunting, shooting, and fishing threads have had good back and forth recently. Honestly, I don't think lack of civility is keeping anyone away -- there's always been a fair amount of fang and claw on here.

On the old site, even in the comments after articles, things could get heated. I once gave a new user a little lecture about that, then welcomed him to the site anyway, and none other than Bill Heavey himself chimed in to jokingly ask, "Matt, have you no sense of indecency, sir?!"

Edit: "Recent Posts" or "Latest Topics," whichever.

Agreed on the civility, difference was the arguments weren’t as stale. The entertainment value just isn’t there anymore.

Interesting about the sidebars, I never look at them.

True. "Vaccinate vs. don't vaccinate" doesn't stack up to Gary Devine vs. Dallas McWhorter. You could've sold tickets to some of those arguments.

Was it Dallas that also used Blackjack or something like that.
Gary left over a dispute of unfair points of Rudy Glove. Crazy.

Actually that was one of Gary's main beefs -- Dallas's many different identities.

I believe there was more to his beef with Rudy than just the points. Rudy had agreed to come up to Jersey and hunt with Gary, and I believe Gary had gone to some trouble to make it happen. Then Rudy was a no-show, or cancelled last-minute, or something like that. I don't recall, exactly -- none of my affair, and not much of it spilled over into the threads on here (I think that might have been on OL, actually; can't remember). Anyway, yes, that Leaderboard thing really rubbed Gary the wrong way.
