  • Public Land Closure in Alaska

Did you know there's a proposal to close certain parts of Alaska to all but subsistence hunters?

When you have as much federal land and federal control as Alaska does friction is inevitable. Alaska's economy is held captive almost totally by the feds. Massachusetts Senators have control over your income, your road building capability, your entire life. Sometimes it gets a little old.

If the federal government gives up control of a piece of property, it should revert back to the state.
I think the Constitution says if the government no longer has need of a property, it's to be sold and the proceeds go back into government coffers.

The Federal Government should only own property, per the Constitution, for forts, magazines* and property for structures necessary to conduct government business.

      * since powder magazines aren't a big thing anymore, I suppose a warehouse for ammunition storage would be okay!

Egads! It's been awhile! Excuse me while I do a little research!

The amount of federal land in Alaska would dwarf the size of Texas. Private property out west is insignificant. That's what the government wants. The government wants citizens who are landless serfs who owe everything that they have or ever will have to the government.

          U.S. Constitution
          Art. IV
          Sec. 3
          paragraph 2

The Congress shall have Power to dispose of and make all needful Rules and Regulations respecting the Territory or other Property belonging to the United States; and nothing in this Constitution shall be so construed as to Prejudice any Claims of the United States, or of any particular State.

I know I saw somewhere that the government could/should only own property for military installations, magazines and property to erect buildings to conduct government business.....but I can't find it.
