Marijuana and Sports Betting

These two things are the top things our NY governor is looking at to generate revenue this year. Tax on legalized weed and state-run gambling. I don't have any moral stance against either thing but that's a sad commentary when a state has to look to things like that. In general can't believe how many meaningless and worthless things are being woven into the fabric of our entire culture nowadays. Thanks, needed to vent that.

I have a moral problem with both, along with other "sin" taxes. Eventually govt comes to like the taxes and they ignore the idea that we shouldn't encourage drug abuse like booze, ciggies, gambling, prostitution, etc. There is a reason many cultures punish these things.

I can see legalizing weed, but I'd not encourage it's use, nor booze, ciggies, gambling, etc.

There has been more than one issue that was illegal, that is until the government decided they could become rich from it, and then it became ‘financially’ legal. Several years ago playing the ‘numbers’ was illegal until government learned much money could be made from the lotto, also drugs were illegal until money could be a easy issue with marijuana, and it looks like they are looking for more drug money, the talk is legalizing heroin, coke and other ‘hard’ drugs. Of course there should be no surprise in all this, after all, who knows better than the government what is right for us !

Heroin and coke used to be legal. Didn't Coke get it's name from the cocaine that was in it. ?

Prostitution is legal in the UK, except that street solicitation is verboten.
