  • Apple or Pumpkin?

One week to Thanksgiving, what will you have for dessert? Minced Meat, Pecan, whatever floats your boat.

    Pumpkin here.

Cooker says pumpkin, doesn't feel like cooking too much. I like apple with a slice of yellow colored (not orange) sharp cheddar melted on top.

          OMG!
          1) Raisin
          2) Coconut Cream
          3) Mince Meat - one of my all time faves!
          4) Pecan

Wouldn't give you 10 cents for a punkin pie unless its homemade with real pumpkin.
That "crud in a can" is just orange colored wax! LOL!

          ...and I do like apple.

My favorite is pecan pie. The best I've ever had was at Magnolias in Charleston, SC. On their menu it's listed as:

SOUTHERN PECAN PIE - bourbon caramel, vanilla bean ice cream, praline lace cookie

My wife makes pumpkin pie out of pumpkins we grow in the garden.

Tried a bite of Pecan pie at the lodge in Montana at the request of the cook, good flavor but I have a texture thing with food so no go for me.

French Silk from Baker's Square aint bad.
                  Aint bad at all.

But if I had to pick between home made apple or pumpkin I'd say "both please".

We grew pumpkins once and made pies. It was awesome! I haven't cared about the canned goop since.
My grampa didn't have any teeth, the Army pulled them in 1918*. He loved pecan pie. Every holiday, there would be one pecan pie on the table that nobody touched. My gramma would grind up the pecans to make a pie, just for him.
His FAVORITE pie was "sweet potato".

*The Army also provided him with false teeth but he refused to wear them.

Apple AND pumpkin, and if I'm lucky, blackberry. And anyone who shows up with Cool Whip is renounced as a heretic. Homemade whipped cream only, and with the apple pie, a nice chunk of extra sharp cheddar.

Usually go for pumpkin but that’s if I can even eat a slice from all that good turkey.

Anybody ever had "Jeff Davis" pie?
                            It's actually a syrup pie.
My mom is the only person I ever knew that made them. She got the recipe off either a sugar sack or syrup bottle.

                            ...and the "Buttermilk Pie".

                            Them's old south favorites!
