Lots of flooding around the state today, after the drenching we got last night. Some of the intersections in my town were ponds, pretty much. In a couple towns, people lost their vehicles where the ground near streams and culverts caved in. One death happened in Herkimer County when a guy tried to drive through a flooded stretch of road. That was one heck of a storm. I still saw a few hardy trick-or-treaters out, before things got too bad, but once it really hit, it was just driving wind and absolute downpour.

I remember maybe 10+ years ago a monumental flood went down the Mohawk Valley and involved the Mohawk River and the Barge Canal. Devastating.

I remember when I was a kid we almost always had snow on the ground for hunting both the South and North zones. Sometimes too much snow. Standard equipment were shovels and tire chains. In fact, they would not allow you entrance to Moose River Plains without a set of chains, even for 4X4's (I had a Dodge Power Wagon) and they warned hunters they may not be able to get to them to warn of big storms coming. We always had provisions for a week or so.
