I have a standing bet with my bil for the past 20 years or more that I will pay him $10 for the first news story of an armed citizen that has had to reload his weapon in a self defense situation.
The closest I came to losing that bet was a shooting in Fort Lauderdale about ten years ago when a retired airline pilot shot two goblins in a late night diner and emptied his gun. By the time he found his spare magazine, both were dead.

There was a recent home invasion, maybe I saw it in American Hunter. 4 armed guys entered and homeowner grabbed his AR-15. Killed 2 and wounded 2, he was hit but not life threatening.

Again, the link I posted is to an article. Four thugs broke in. Home owner grabbed his AR, killed two and was shot himself but is expected to live.
A year or so back, three thugs broke into a home. The home owner grabbed his AR. Killed two and they caught the third. One of the two killed, rushed the homeowner. Fatal mistake.

Read the links jimbo. They're pretty interesting.

Jimbo and Bubba - In the cases you just cited, it seems like a .357 revolver would have done the job, with ammo left over.

Seriously, you would feel comfortable going against four armed home intruders with only 6 rounds? I don't believe you've put much thought into such a scenario.

Shooting through walls, doors, and furniture could be another advantage to using an AR with high velocity projectiles and capacity. There would be plenty of extra rounds available for misses. And remember, high capacity mags are illegal in some locations. A handy magazine swap would be even more important if you are limited to only 10 rounds in the firearm

Back in the early 70's, a Missouri state trooper called in a traffic stop.
When he didn't radio back within the time limit, they went looking for him.
They found the trooper under a huge assailant, strangled to death. The assailant, also dead, had six .357 round center mass.
The assailant proved to be high in on drugs.

99explorer, if you feel comfortable with only 6 rounds, sobeit.
As for me, I really don't want to worry about reloading in the middle of a gunfight. I'll start with a hi cap mag.

99, does that mean you are admitting that you've been wrong on this issue? Or is it that you can't stand not having the last word?

Hmmm. Dunno if and Korean store owners reloaded during the LA riots. Saw some on top of their businesses w Mini 14s.

Saw some gentlemen protecting their businesses armed w AR15 during the Ferguson riot.

Dunno if they reloaded or just the show of firepower kept the scum away.

Think in the LA riot there were a few shot ( not enough IMHO ).

My old boss did a church deal after Katrina. Since the local LE boogied at the start (knew theyd be targets) the gangs in frustration shot other rescue personnel.....firemen, national guard etc.

Boss's church group had armed escort.....guy said that things had simmered down by the time they got there..... and after they killed a few would be thug snipers.

I may not always be right, but I am never wrong.
If you follow the advice of law enforcement professionals, the best thing to do in a home invasion is to retreat to a safe room, lock the door and call 911, gun in hand.
The home invaders may break down the door, and they may keep coming as fast as you can shoot them, stepping over the bodies of those who went before, but eventually the pile of bodies will be too high for the rear echelon to surmount.
They may call their friends in the ghettto for backup and try to get at you through a window, but they will not find you unprepared, for you will have many high capacity magazines at hand and your hearing protection in place.

That's what the suppressor is for Einstein, it also reduces muzzle flash.

You can have your own opinions, but there is only one set of facts.

Bubba - That is a matter of opinion.
Please excuse my saying so, but you sure do have a lot of them.
BTW, I put a riddle over on Outdoor Life. Check it out.
