    Whitetails have antlers that curve forward. mule deer have antlers that grow outwards or upwards. Usually mule deer have deeper forks too.

      The whitetail and mule deer were isolated from each other and over thousands of years each formed different characteristics.

        Its just because of where tthey evolved. Different locations equal different looks. Nowadays though they both live in the relatively same areas in some places.
