My chocolate lab ran away on father's day a few years back. That spring (8 months later), while on a walk, I saw her sticking her head out of a car window at the gas station. She has a very distinct white patch on her throat so I knew it was her. I went over and talked to the person and was able to get her to return my dog to me. She comes back over later that same evening and tries to steal her back. I had to call the cops and have her escorted off of my property. Not done yet. Next thing I know there is a lawyer canvasing my neighborhood talking to people about me trying to build a case. I got served, had to pay a lawyer $1000+ to take my case. Once I lawyerd-up the other lawyer realized they didn't have a case and cancelled the court date. No BS that is 100% true, and the abbreviated version. You should hear the details.
