The have H1, H2 and H3 are 4 lanes because they have their right to their share of the interstate highway funds. H1, 2 and 3 are technically federal highways. They appear to meet at the waist of Oahu. Pearl Harbor just happens to be close.

Hawaii doesn't technically, but Honolulu does. Not sure why but all appear to meet in Pearl Harbor which I am assuming has something to do with it?

Eisenhower implemented the National System of Interstate and Defense Highway System. Followed by the Fedral Aid Highway Act in 1956 to pay for the roads. So a road by any other name is a Highway.

I think they should name a street after him, like B.O. Blvd.

Sort of true but not the real reason they have roads called Highways. Blame a President.

Interstate highways have the letter "I" as a prefix to the highway number.
The "H" prefix that you cite probably stands for Hawaii.
Also, I think that our odd-numbered highways run north and south, while our even-numbered highways run east and west.
