What is the best 1911 you can get for around $900?

I have a STI. I got it for about $670. And I never had a more accurate firearm. Period. It is scary accurate. It is so accurate, I have had guys coming up to me on the range to find out what I am using and where can they get one, accurate. Never had that happen before or since. And mine is a low end of the line, because the frame was made overseas for STI. Maybe I just got lucky on a very well tuned model.
STI makes nothing but 1911’s and their top shelf are supposed to be target pistols designed for competitive shooters.

Guest repliedFor the price range you specify, I would look for a used but not abused Kimber. The Custom II model is as good as anyone needs.

I think the Ruger 1911 is better than the Remington version and it fits in your price range.

Go with Kimber. I have put several hundred rounds through it over the years and it only gets better.

I ust purchased the Rem. R1 1911. I am absolutely in lust with it. Easy to shoot, dissasemble and clean. Also quite accurate. I practically sleep with it!!!!

1911's come in a lot of different variants and configurations. If this is your first one, I would suggest a 5" Series 70 model, like a Springfield. You should be able to find a "loaded" model for right around your price point in Stainless, less if you wasn't carbon steel with parkerizing. It will have a lot of the enhancements that everyone seems to wasn't these days, such as a duck-butt grip safety (good), combat fixed sights (better), skeletonized hammer (ok), and ambi-safety (not my choice, but prevalent).
I hear good reports about the Sturm-Ruger iterations too, but I have never fired one.

I like the Remington 1911-1R or the Springfield line of GI S/S 1911-1 Both have great fit & finish with good sights. They are both with in your price point+/-.

I'd consider the Kimber Custom II. I'm very pleased with mine.
