A little War Time/Peace Time Trivia. What is the connection between A Beautiful 1940's Actress, Smart Bombs and Twenty First Century Communications. As a bonus what was her name and the original purpose of the invention?

    Carl,
I think you are talking about Hedy Lamarr and the invention had something to do with radar.

Pretty close Safado. The original invention was called "Frequency Hopping Spread Spectrum Radio Transmission. It was developed by Hedy and her composer neighbor George Antheil to play musical instruments simultaneously. They took it to the Navy in 1941 to make radio controlled torpedo's harder to detect and jam. The original used a piano roll with 88 frequencies. It was not adopted but later used in 1962 in the Cuban Blockade. By then the patient had expired. Hedy sued and the theory became noticed by a Canadian telephone company. She got royalties and became the bases of how Cell Phones Work. I was taught this in NY Tel, when the wireless network was developed in the 70's.

99-Tree; True That sooner or later you stop hunting and fishing and you sit around the fire. More interesting than arguing about the 30-06 VS the 308. As a side note she also sued "Blazing Saddles" for Korman's character Hedly Lamarr.
