I vote for the .308MarlinExpress - especially with the Hornady flex tip 160gr at 2660fps, 2500energy. They say it equals the .300Savage at all distances.
The Hornady flex tip is the best advancement for lever action tube fed guns in over 100 years. Breathed new life into my old model'94 30-30. Accuracy in both my '94 and my mod 336 with flex tip is excellent. Probably adds 50 or 75 more yds to the effective range of the 30-30.

My impression is that the .307 Win has fallen from interest in the United States. Though it offers .308 performance, there weren't that many rifles made in .307 Win and it appears to be clinging to life in the care of handloaders. I think it would be a good chambering for a single-shot like the Ruger #1 or #3 (should Ruger choose to resurrect that model), but the same could be said for the .30-40 Krag. I think the .307 Win, introduced in 1982, didn't receive the support it needed from Winchester. At this point, I would be concerned about the availability of brass for this cartridge.
