I am planning an antelop hunt in the Grasslands of Nebraska. Do you think I need snake boots or gaiters? Or will I be fine if I'm careful

You should be fine. You have to try pretty hard to get bitten here in NE, especially in the grasslands.

    (Hope I didn't jinx you)

Screw that, I wear gaiters when in snake country. I hunt just to the west of youin CO and WY. $30 to keep me out of intense mind numbing pain.
But then I am a bit of a chicken&*^ when it comes to snakes.

            hengst,
where did you get gaiters for $30? That was one of the reasons I was leaning not to wear them because of the price....

I picked mine up at Sportsmans Warehouse a few years ago. They are not the snake chaps but straight gaiters that wrap around the calf and buckle in place.

A buddy of mine uses snake boots, pretty pricey. I like the fact that I can keep my eyes on my surroundings in front of me and not have to keep looking at the ground.
If they never stop a bite I am fine with that but if they protect me just once that saves on my insurance co-pay.

You will be fine... just watch where you walk. Boots are better on nice warm days in the Fall though. I have never been bitten in 60 years of hunting there. Three years ago, though, my brother was bitten twice in one morning... they hit his pants above the boot while he was sneaking up on antelope. I like wearing bibs over my hunting boots.
