I was wondering who got here before me with the answer but I figured I was you KingFisher.
Reid, I chose that picture because it is one of the more beautiful representations of the patterns (fractals) we see all around us in our universe. The world we love to hunt and fish in is defined by non-linear systems like weather and water turbulence. I am fascinated by the fact that these patterns are found around and within us at all scales.
One brief example is the dendritic pattern. It is in your lungs and circulatory system, you see it on maps when you look at rivers and their watersheds, you see it in plants in their roots and branches. Superficially these are completely separate and distinct systems yet each is defined and functions by using the same pattern. There are many of these patterns and the study of them and how they create order within seeming disorder is called Chaos Theory. The mathematics are way beyond me but the concept is one that has shaped my outlook on life and the world for many years now. Chaos rules my friend, and the Mandelbrot Set is one of the most beautiful examples.
If you are interested in learning more a great book is "Chaos,The making of a new science" by James Gleick. Check it out.

its called the Mandelbrot Set, a fractal...its a mathematical set of numbers representing the point at which order becomes chaos...
