    Decades ago I used a scoped Marlin bolt action .22 magnum with some success on turkeys in fields in the deep south.

    As for why not, a .22 to the head makes sure all of the meat is usable (for one reason anyway).

    It is illegal in Texas. You are not allowed to shoot turkey with rimfire rifles.
