because they have no choice. land prices drop and rise from time to time and i wouldn't be suprised to see it bottom out some time in the future.

Land prices have been dropping in most parts of the country for the past two years. The better question is: when will prices bottom out? And I think the answer is: sooner than we think.

Honestly, I have never seen prices of land in Maine so low. I believe this is the state of land sales throughout New England.

land is a valuable thing, an while it may seem low, it may go lower, but remeber the taxes that go with it...that is how people lose land, taxes.

i beg to differ buck, I wanted to buy some land this year and while it is in a known good area of mixed hunting, and the person(s) needed the money, they refused the offers...I keep watching though, it may be banked owned in 2011.

the prices in land may flucuate but they will always rise due to the fact that the population always increaces while the amount of land doesnt change

Land prices aren't decreasing in Ohio. In the last few years the Dutch have been buying up fairly sizeable tracts for huge dairy operations. (one has 7500 confined Holsteins) From what I've heard the Dutch consider our land a real bargain compared to Europe.

I have seen land locally fall in price by as much as 50% lately due to the down turn in the economy. Many of those folks who were flipping property and driving up the price got caught with their pants down...
