First class postage was probably a penny at the time, and mail was delivered three times a day. Millard Fillmore?

That would be Benjamin Franklin, who, with a lot of his other inventions, invented the Post Office. Wonder what he would think of the mess it has become in modern times?

Was it Abraham Lincoln? I remember a discussion about this way back in grade school.

Libertyfirst, you hit it on the nail head. He owned a store and went bankrupt, lost an election for the Illinois General Assembly, and then got a job as the New Salem postmaster. He went on from that to be a county surveyor. The rest is well known history.

I should have known it would be somebody with his head on Mount Rushmore. What kind of a crappy question would have Millard Fillmore as the answer?

The question was who was the ONLY to serve as a postmaster and the answer is Lincoln. Truman was selected but did not serve.

I did not find where Harry S(.) Truman was a postmaster. Only that he had worked in a mail room for a newspaper. He had been appointed to a position on the Civil Works Administration by request of James Farley who was the Postmaster General at the time. While he was president he did appoint three postmaster Generals; Frank C walker, Robert E Hannegan, and Jesse M Donaldson.
