This probably sounds dumb, but could someone give me the way B&C; scores deer&elk; racks and the way P&Y; scores deer&elk; racks? Also, what is your personal preference?

B&C and P&Y score the same way B&C is for all kills gun and bow, P&Y is for bow kills only. -
Each organization publishes their record books. I would suggest that you order one or both. You will learn a lot and see some unbelievable heads. Some of the infomation also gives you a vague idea of where you might want to plan a future hunt.Comment

measure the inside spread, main beam lengths, length of all pts greater than 1 inch, then circumferances at antlers base and between points to a maximum of 4 per side. add all these together. That's your gross score.Comment

To make the Boone & Crockett Record Books, means you can make Pope & Young if you you shot the animal with a bow AND if you made the minimum required score but not vice versa. This means that the Boone & Crockett minimum scores are higher than Pope & Young minimum scores, since it is more difficult to harvest a trophy with a bow, then a firearm.
Boone & Crockett minimum scores for Whitetail Bucks: 160 typical, 185 non-typical; Mule Deer Bucks: 180 typical, 215; Rocky Mountain (American) Elk: 360 typical, 385 non-typical.
Pope & Young minimum scores for Whitetail Bucks: 125 typical, 155 non-typical; Mule Deer Bucks: 145 typical, 170 non-typical; Rocky Mountain (American) Elk: 260 typical, 335 non-typical.Comment

If you go to the website they actually have writen instructions that you can follow to score your animal. They are easy to understand and its kinda fun, even on smaller animals.Comment

For information on B & C scoring, call the Club at (406) 542 - 1888, and they will be happy to help you, Ask for Jack Reneau he is a very nice man. If he's not around, ask for Keith Balfourd, agood man too.

B&C is for all the kills that guns or the bow but the P&Y is for bow kills only!Comment
