              A buddy of mine is a vet and takes his turkeys into his office for xrays after killing them. After 8 birds he has never found more than 2 pellets in the head.

                As said, just one will kill a turkey. But if you're asking because you want to know how many you would want to see within the head of a target to know your gun is grouping well, maybe 6, 8, something in that ballpark.

                      I hate to sound like the lone voice of reason here, but is the question about the number of pellets from a shotgun shell, or from a pellet rifle?

                      Because hunting turkey with a pellet rifle would not only be unethical, it would also be illegal in many states.

                        I agree--just one. But when you pattern your shotgun, you should be getting a few in the kill zone.

                        P.S. If you're talking about hunting with a pellet gun, I agree with Jeff.

                          Shot placement yes it all. The right placement means onyly one is needed. Good hunting!
