Does anyone remember the author Gene Hill? He wrote a monthly article for the magizine called Hill Country. Did he ever publish a book or collection of his stories? I would very much like to know the availability if somthing exists.

For Cathy Hill:
Good evening to "The Chairman of the Board!" :-) Mrs. Hill, please know that there are many, many of us who read, re-read, and re-read over again your late husband's works. Upon his passing, I wrote to Field and Stream words that remain today just as true, "I deeply regret that I never got to meet that gentle sportsman." Here's a term that I think describes Gene Hill as a sportsman: CLASS! My best wishes to you and your family.

I got my first Gene Hill book when I was 12 and have been collecting and re-reading them ever since. In addition to having had Labradors, I now have a Wirehaired Pointing Griffon and I was happy to see that the Hill's had one as well. I guess I can't be too far off the mark. Having dogs and kids to hunt with makes his writing all the more special. F&S was better when they had some writing that was at least somewhat reverent. And as much as I appreciate Heavey as a funny guy, I don't think "classy" is a term I would use for him as I would for the late Mr. Hill. Perhaps I am wrong- I hope I am.
I hope everyone had a Merry Christmas.
Steve

This is a late post but if Mrs. Hill see's it I hope it makes her smile. My late father loved Gene's writing and had every book. In fact he ordered one I believe right from Gene himself and Cathy sent a short note with it. I'll never forget it. When I was sick back in 87 and very close to leaving this life my family read me Gene's books while I was unconcious. I just want you to know how much I appreciated Gene and how much my father did as well. Gene wrote the way my Dad felt about dogs, hunting and life.

I never met Gene Hill but I feel as though he was one of my best friends. His stories make me laugh, cry, worry and anticipate the coming seasons. I read the stories to my children in front of the fire. I read them to my wife at night while she is trying to sleep because they are to good to enjoy alone. Often while I am in the field Gene's words and stories come to mind. I miss Gene Hill and am a better person for have read his work. The fall is coming soon...I am sure that I will think of him again this fall...and should my wife or children ever tire of his work...I will read it to the lab as we sit in front of the fire. I am sure he will enjoy it as much as do.
