walker or a blood hound, but I don't see anyghing wrong with a lot of the answers above such as Blue tick. I probably wouldn't take my beagle coon hunting though seeing as it takes a lot of swimming and chasing and when a beagle and a big raccoon get in a fight I don't see it ending as well as you'd hope.

I dont know about a beginer dog, but alot of people I know here in texas use Blue Lacys' for treeing racoons and baying hogs

GO for the Blue tick or for a smaller more rounded dog go for the Cur.

bluetick hounds are the best a bluetick will almost run up the tree and the coon for ya.

I would go with a blue tick all the way. My grandpa used to have a Mountain Cur that was real good at treeing but if she caught the coon she would kill it.
