No. 6 or even 7 1/2 should be enough.

Please, read my blog. Just google "A Wild Beast at Heart".

That is souly the basis of which shotgun you are using and at what range. From my .410 I like the 2 1/2" #4's out to 30 yards. From a 12ga I perfer #6's from a mod choke to the same distance. But try and stay away from the 12ga as much as possible hunting squirrel

I've almost always use #6 shot. It has always dropped 'em instantly with not much meat damage.

typically i shoot 6 but a squirrel is not a hard animal at all to kill, you can really use anything short of a light skeet load and do well.

I use 4's (with some 6's in pocket) in 20 gauge. I also like tighter choke for squirrels. You can adjust your shot (if they're not running) so you don't make a mess.

#4's not as many in the meat.

I prefer 4's but rarely use a shotgun.

I prefer #6 or 7 with my .410, but you have to shoot at least 3 inch shells, 2.5's just don't even compare.

8's will kill em' too. you just might have to finish it when you get up to it but you wont be pullin pellets out of the body.
