I did not fish or hunt -- I kept thinking about smallmouths and browns in the river but both Saturday and Sunday just went out to state land for the usual 3-hour walk. Not much color yet but lots of leaves coming down. It's always nice, that first time you can see a distance through the woods after having them all thick and dark all summer.

Surprisingly, I found some blackberries still on the bushes. Got a good double-handful; a little mushy but tasted fine.

Coyotes were going crazy, both nights at dusk. Saturday, there were three different bunches all at once -- two in the creekbottom down below me and one on the ridge above me. That was kind of interesting, especially since it was pretty much full dark when I still had a good mile or so back to the car.

Late Sept and you found blackberries? WOW! Down here, ours are gone by the end of June!
Here in OK, our nights are beginning to cool (55°/60°).
Daytime highs can still get up into the high 90's.....but you can feel that "touch of fall" in the air.
About the only "color" we get around here are the elm trees. The leaves turn bright yellow like aspens.
If you're fortunate enough to have "black" gum trees, they turn a deep, almost blood red. A most awesome sight.
Everything else just turns brown and rattles to the ground! LOL! In the fall, it's like walking in a bowl of cornflakes!
Pecans and willows will throw a touch of yellow, but not like the elms.
Glad somebody's getting some breaks in the weather.
      S. Texas is still a 100°, sweltering oven.
Their winter is like your early fall.
Cactus and mesquite don't change colors.

Both wild blackberries and blueberries were a bust this year. I did get a handful a week or so back but they weren’t impressive. Trying to wrap up the garden, not much left besides peppers and carrots. Jalapeño, banana and chilies have been exploding, bells as usual late to the party. Haven’t had s frost yet, been nice not having to cover plants.

The Kid heard a coyote up behind the hose when he got home about 2:30 this afternoon. Said it was going ballistic.

Fall is around the corner. Trivia, what causes the different colors of leaves ?
