  • How is your Turkey season going?

I had an awesome first season, I was in the middle of birds everyday and took a nice 2-3 yr old Tom on April 6th! I am excited for 3rd season, I get to guide for a couple first timers and that is as much fun as doing the shooting! Then I will get the chance at another bird for the 5th season! The young Tom is below!

      Weight?
      Beard length?
      Spur length?
Actually, any turkey you can outsmart is a trophy!
      Nice bird!

        Nice bird!
He weighed 20.8 lbs had a 8.5 inch beard and 7/8 inch spurs. The beard looks a little longer in the picture because of the angle.

            NICE!
Hunted an area for quite a while where toms sported 10 and 11 inch beards. I took several there that weighed 22 to 23 pounds.
Where I'm hunting now, I haven't taken a bird over 20 pounds or over an 8 or 9 inch beard.

Looked back in my journal yesterday. One of the two birds in my avatar weighed 22 pounds and both sported a 10" beard. How soon we forget!
Another reason to maintain a hunting journal.

Youth weekend is April 22-23. Regular season runs the month of May. Seem to be more birds around this year than the past few, so optimism abounds.
Congrats on the bird, and good luck with the guiding.

In southern IL it is not uncommon for a mature 4-5 year old tom to be 24+ lbs with a 10+ beard. We grow'em big round here!

Why does Bubba constantly corrupt a post by inserting an irrelevant post that changes the thread. He does that all the time.

I have found that a riding mower takes less of a toll on crippled people, but you get more exercise with a pushing style reel mower.
