I went for my first turkey hunt in the woods bordering a field. It's my granfather's land and he knows it's a place where the turkeys come to feed and sometimes court/mate. My dad and I came before sunlight and set up our decoys and ground blind. I blew our locater calls, no response. Later I started doing hen purrs and yelps and still nothing. We came home empty handed four hours later. We cant find the roost because it's on someone elses property who is a big anti hunter. Any suggestions on what to do next time because we'll have to hunt the same area? Also, this weekend my only oppurtinity to hunt turkeys will be friday evening in the same area. How should you hunt them in the afternoon, evening?

Did you actually haer a gobble? If you are positive they are roosting off site, set up as close as possible to them and try to get an answer. If he responds, back up 30 yards and when he crosses the line blast him.

If not, get between the spot where you think they are roosting and where they are headed. Call periodically and listen for an answer. Hopefully as they travel they will get close enough to hear your calls and get interested.
