I have a 6.5x55 Swedish Mauser and recently read an article in the June issue where Mr.Petzal recommends 156 gr. Norma as a round he likes. I want to reload several boxes do to difficulty finding shells. What would be a good powder to use for this?

My Swedish mauser has always shot the best with H-4895. I'm not near my records so I'll get the amounts for you

The load that shot so well for me was the hornady 160 rn with 36.0grs of h-4895 and a rem. standard primer. My notes say that I got an average velocity of 2580 fps and 100 yard 5 shot groups of just over 1" This is with a Swedish M-96 and a 4 power scope. Pretty good shooting for me, I'm not a good bench rest shooter.

44 grains of Hodgdon's H4831 should get you around 2600 fps with a 160 grain bullet. This load is from the Hornady manual. You mentioned a 156 grain bullet the difference in weight is not enough to matter. Other things like primer and case brand would likely be more important. That is a near maximum load so start with 39 grains and work your way up. As always use at your own risk. Start low and work your way up looking for signs of high pressure.

You’re on the right track, wasabi is Japanese horseradish. Have never compared the two side by side and have no intention.
