A .30-30 will do the job well out to over 250 yards if you can hit the target. I've come to find that this old round has become very underrated. I regularly take shots out to 150 yards with no problems.

I've witnessed 30-30 kills at 400 with over the counter 150's out in Arizona and New Mexico on Mule Deer. But if your going to buy a 30-30, why not a 308 or better yet a 30-06. My preference would be a 25-06.......

I've considered it but it really comes down to cost, weight and recoil. I am by no means recoil sensitive but with the amount of practice I'll be doing low recoil will be a plus, same goes for the cost of shooting it since I don't reload.
