    Well mattreney, you only aim at the base of the neck when the turkey is withing 20-25 yards. When they are that close, the shot doesn't spread out as much as you think.

    Just like a deer.

    Since you're on the internet, you should have no problem finding a bird anatomy picture... like;

    http://encarta.msn.com/encnet/refpages/RefMedia.aspx?refid=461541340

    You can't quite get a straight line on a lung-heart-lung shot like a deer, but you can see the most humane angle to use.

    mostly the head when shots go a little low it will still die automatically the problem with aiming at the neck it the spray can hit the breast and then you have to remove all the lead from the bird. not fun at all. i use a full choke to help avoid this so if you have the confidence and the aim id do the same

    if you shoot a turkey in the head or neck, the bird will be as dead as the lead that went through it's head. nice little rhyme ain't it? as far as a bird that you'll be shooting out of the air goes, it's gonna be very very very tough to consistently shoot it in the same place. geese and ducks i aim for the head because it helps to lead your shot in front of the bird and one shot in the head is all it takes. doves and other small birds, just aim a little in front of their direction of flight. a shot to the body is about all it takes to put down a dove. for pheasant, usually you're close enough to just put the sights on the bird.

    Well it depends on what kind of bird you are shooting and what caliber/load you are using. If your turkey hunting, with a shotgun, you aim at the base of the neck when the bird is close and right at the head if it is far away. But with small birds, aim as high as you can. As long as you are accurate, the bird won't feel a thing.
