Expanding on BigBundy's question, if there is a scrub field where deer are bedding, would you cut trails/lanes for the fall or not cut at all? Bush hog in spring or end of season? This is a field surrounded by woodland, modest hunting pressure, maybe 10 acres. Thanks.

Heck no! Don't wait! If you want shooting lanes, brush hog them now!

Bubba and Tree, so you would mow lanes or the entire field?

          Lanes.
You'll want to kinda "ratio" the lanes to the size of the field.
One to five acres, you may only want to cut one or two lanes.
Ten acres or so and up, probably four or five. I don't think I'd exceef five, regardless of size. Radiate them out from your stand/blind like fingers on a wide spread hand.
If it's a "huge" area, at least two swathes wide. I don't think I'd consider more than four swathes wide. In small areas, i wouldn't swath more than one swath wide. Maximum two wide.

Last month would've been a great time to cut. Getting close to the season now. Don't wait too much longer.

Steve - I actually did bush hog the whole thing last weekend as I usually do, just wondering if I should switch things up next year.
