The 2013 southwest Alabama alligator hunt is now officially in the history books. The second session ended this morning at 6:00am and if my information is correct, only 72 of the 150 tags issued were filled. That means that 78 unhappy hunters did not get a gator this year and must surrender their tags. That is tough because the tags are issued by a lottery and there is no guaranty that any of those 78 will get a tag next year. The hunters I had staked out for some fresh alligator meat this year, did not get one. Therefore, I will be gator meat shy for the next 12 months and just have to eat feral pork and fish until my son-in-law gets deer meat starting this October 15th with his bow. I have to admit that there is a little gator sausage left over in the freezer. But, I do not think it will last long because my wife is planning on gator sausage sliders for the Alabama opener next weekend with Virginia Tech.
