I am not a shot shell expert so my question is why does shot 'string' out instead of staying in a cup formation? Does the end of the 'string' have the same velocity as the front??

The motion of the shot wuz described by Ike Newton a long time ago.

"Every action hazza equal and opposite reaction."

The rear sshot strike the foremost and bounce back, slowing the rear shot.

More tangential forces cause them to spread outward.

I think the rear shot suffers more compression than the front shot and emerges from the barrel in less aerodynamic form.

Would the 'string' have something to do with a follow through on a moving target like a bird as opposed to a tighter cup formation on something like a sitting rabbit or stationary Turkey ??
