we have just purchased a 380 acre area in upper michigan and i have alot of options for spots to either set up a blind or set up a tree stand. theres a bit of everything from fields to hardwoods to swamp area and everything in between. where would be the best spot to set up for a big buck.

Wherever there's sign! Many people make the mistake of just finding a spot in the woods and setting up. This sometimes works, but if you want to kill a big buck you have to scout, and find where the big boys hangout! I killed my largest deer in a field this year, but he was after a doe and not paying attention. That said, it depends. I see a lot of my bucks in hardwoods though, as most bucks like to stick to seclusion rather than being in the open. They'll go into open areas of course, but they'll stick to cover if given the chance.

Look for spots where 3 of those areas come close together. Like a strip of woods between a field and a swampy area. Put out trail cameras and observation stands. Trail cameras are great tools, but they can't compare to time in the woods.

for the morning look for an area with sign heading from bedding to food for the midday to afternoon look for a place with sign with cruising areas to bedding area. In the rut look for the highest level of activity and throw anything you have at them

Now is a great time to scout. as the snow melts, the heavily traveled deer trails are much easier to see than at other times of the year. also, more than one old timer tells me that the BIG ONE won't use that same heavily traveled trail, but one 1- to 15 yards on either side. Good Luck.

In the LP the best place is on the edge of swamps and woods where there is a trail

well first is first you have to figure out if you even have big bucks on the property. first step, with 380 acres, id have an arsenal of trail cams strategically located at a few "gamey" spots. id leave these things out in august to find the deer, then have my stands hung and spots hammered down in mid september a few weeks before the season.
