This kid should have had a hunter safety course. He should have been more careful with his shot and they should have had a plan.

Don't hunt with juveniles unless you are behind them and defending yourself from their muzzle at all times. Even then it can be dangerous. You have to treat them like they are tight rope walking over a buzz saw and pay very close attention. The kid violated safety principles but I expect them to do that. I got shot once and had several near misses until I finally learned that lesson 50 years ago.

Don't ever leave a juvenile side while hunting. He young and letting him go on his own was only asking for trouble.

The kid should have had someone with more experience with him, an he shouldn't have shot across the road. Should have planned it out better.

Wear blaze orange, be sure of your target and whats beyond. It dosen't matter if it is your partner or someone else that came on to the property that you don't know about. Make sure where your shot is going.

Two hundred twenty yards? That's over 70 yards!
It only takes one .36 caliber pellet to do the job!
When still hunting in pairs, know where your partner is. Wear blaze orange.
If in doubt about your partner, DON'T SHOOT until they are located. Stay in contact with each other. Hand signals or whistles.

Plan your Hunt with friends or family,Wear Blaze Orange
keep in touch with your party, it sounds like they had NO plans...Buck Shot is Bad A$$/Rx.

I guess the obvious would be they didn't have a plan as to where each were going to be heading or if they had a plan it was not followed. That buckshot is nasty business.

A 63-year-old hog hunter was killed in a hunting accident in Florida last month. He was hunting hogs with a partner described only as a juvenile on private property. The two hunters separated during the hunt. The juvenile saw several hogs crossing a narrow road, and shot one time at the hogs using a 16 gauge shotgun loaded with number one buckshot. The older hunter was approx. 220 feet from the shooter and was hit and killed by the buckshot. Some cardinal rules of safety were violated here. What were they?Tags: None
