When do bucks start to shed their antlers in Maryland? I've heard of a couple being found but when does shed season really start around here?

Bucks shed their antlers when their hormone levels reach a certain level. Some bucks will drop their antlers as early as December but most will drop in the months of Jan. to Feb. I have seen antlered buck as late as April and some say a few deer will keep the same antlers until next year.
Look for antlers on a day when the ground is wet. They seem to be easier to see.

According to the Maryland DNR website, deer begin to lose their antlers in mid January...however, that was an average point in time. I see no reason why some deer would not lose their antlers from December all the way to March or April.
what I would like to know is where to go to try & collect them...since I am new to Maryland, I don't have a clue as to where to search.
