The only ones who get hurt by this are the farmers who grow crops specifically for baiting deer. The DNR here in MI kind of blindsided the farmers last year by announcing the ban right before the season started. The stores still sold bait (DNR can't control sale of agricultural products) but no doubt the sales suffered. I know alot of guys who still baited, but it's not worth the risk. And besides it's better for us all if it's banned.

I'm confused, isn't a baiting ban a ban on bait?

I think the MI DNR wanted an excuse to ban baiting and now they have one. I don't see baiting coming back anything soon. I am learning to hunt differently and plan to hunt more trails this year. I definitely find that I am learning and thinking more about my hunting now rather than just plowing bait down and aiming. Of course I ate my tags last year, but I definitely learned a thing or two about natural deer activity.
