what is the difference between the boone and crockett and pope and young scorig system

  • #2
Is Boone and crockett for bucks scoring over 170 inches and pope and young are for bucks scoring less. Although I am basing this on no experience because I have not shot any deer eve close.

B&C is for deer shot with guns and P&Y is for archery. the scores vary by state and usually pope and young has a smaller entry level

The scoring systems themselves are no different. The same measurements are taken and those measurements are added in the same way. As stated above, B&C is for deer killed with a gun and the minimum entry score is 170. For Pope and Young the minimum entry score is 125 and is for deer killed with a bow.

Yeah, MNhunter23 and vork23 are correct. You can have a buck score both B&C and P&Y if you shoot it with a bow and if it qualifies for B&C minimum.

If you want to see some samples click my username and look in the photo file. There is a 130 2/8 Pope and Young buck I shot last Oct 29 and a 242 inch B&C NT buck shot with a bow in Iowa by Steve Binkley the same day.

I've never had my bucks scored, I'm not really into that, but now I'm tempted. The P&Y books might just get a little thicker.

                    Very generally, archery vs. firearm.

You're wrong my friend. P&Y means that the deer you kill must be 125 in. Minimum, if Non typical it must score 155-or up to 160 (pretty sure it has to be up to 160). Which is where P&Y end. Therefore it is not the weapon you kill the deer with, but really what the total number of inches and circumferences the deers antlers add up to be. Not sure but typical for B&C I think is 180, I can't remember exactly, but it's close. Weapon doesn't mean a thing, I think it takes away from us bow hunters myself. It's easy to pull a trigger that reaches 500+ yards. My PSE is only going 60 yards tops, and in a wide open field lol. #BOWHUNTALLSEASON!!
