30-06 can be picked up at places that may not have any other ammo. 30-06 rounds come in such a vast variety of weights that you can gat the same weight as a 25-06, so go with a 30-06 if you havent yet.

Depends on the store and you will find both will be the most common on the shelves. I reload my own and .257 cal is a little cheaper but not enough to break the bank and worry about!

Why, because they're lighter? It's good logic, but...Don't work that way. Production loads for both are similarly priced.

25-06 is typically a little more expensive than 30/06 on the store shelf. I reload all mine so it typically is a little cheaper. This is primarily due to .257 bullets being smaller and using up less material in their production.

If reloading, the .25-06 is a little cheaper because of less lead. Factory loads are about the same. I would never choose one or the other because of the differnce in price. They REALLY act differently in the field and I would choose the one that meets my needs better.

No, the .30-06 is the most mass produced rifle cartridge for hunting, so it's cheaper.
