what time of year would be good to tract the deers movement

Now is the best time especially during the Spring Turkey hunt to find this past season rubs. Once you find one, you can locate the other rubs and predict next seasons buck rub line trail. This will give you a good idea and to plan the location and setup for your deer stand for opening day. Remember when preseason scoutings go into the area lightly, quietly and as few times necessary to locate and to setup for opening day. Deer will pattern your movements and adjust their habits to avoid you or to clear out of the area.

Spring scouting is a great way to find sign from the previous season. It will give you something to go on when you begin your fall scouting. In most areas deer will change movements from summer to fall.

I start scouting a month prior to the season opener and hang my stands a week or two prior to opening day of bow season. I've been hunting the same area for 20 years now and pretty much know who goes where. I scout just to find my buck and nothing else.

I might add that a deers movement will change as the food source changes.

Any time during the spring is a good time to track and figure out deer patterns. It also provides for some good shed hunting.
