Do you think that a ladder stand scares a deer away?

When you first put it up, the deer will definately be very cautious at this new object in their home, but just like houses, cars, and people, they will get used to it after a while, which makes it a perfect place to hunt. You could also dress the ladder up with some vines, sticks, or fake leaves so they are less cautious at first.

I've had deer rub up against mine. That was a great hunt.

Nope. Seen deer walk right next to them. If you put it up a while before season opens, they will get pretty used to pretty quickly.

No if you put up the stand a week or two before opener you should be fine.

No, just set it up several weeks prior to when you plan to hunt out of it.

I shouldn't. Just kind of camoflauge it. If you can.

A goofy looking 3-point walked so close to my ladder stand last season that I braced for impact. I thought he was going to pass between the ladder and the tree, and he almost did. I had a doe stop and take time to pee within 5 yards of the same stand. Thanks for the free scent, I thought. I will be hunting that stand again this year.

If given a chance to get used to the stand they will pay no more attention to it than they will to any tree in the woods. UNLESS they bust you in it a couple of times...then they will adjust thier pattern in order to avoid it.

I once climbed into an old, homemade tree stand, that I had just discovered, and sat there, for about an hour and a half, when an 'ol doe came walking by.

She paused just before walking into an open lane, logging road, and looked directly at the tree stand, ladder and all. I didn't move ... after a couple of minutes she ventured off.

There is always the potential for them to be somewhat cautious!
