I've heard 50lbs can ethically kill all biggame animals in North America. But I would use 60lbs or more to insure it make a clean pass through shot.

Make sure the bow fits the shooter first.

You may want to check the regulations in the state that you hunt in. Wyoming has a minimum 55 pound draw weight for elk. 45 pounds for mule deer. But I like NYhunter's advise. I think I'd set my bow at 60 pounds and leave it.

Its more arrow weight then draw weight (Id want at least 60# though). Id want my arrow at least 400 grains for them critters. You want to be able to drive though heavy bone and what not and get good penitration. That with a good fixedblade head and you will do fine.

I think your friend could put moose/elk in the freezer with a 65# set up, just keep away from the shoulder bones,

I have to agree with all of the above. I shoot 70# but I shoot it often. I guess my pick for a minimum would be 60#

60# is a good weight, make sure your broad heads are rugged and heavy enough to go through the tougher skin and they might nick some bones too, but above all, make sure them broad heads are Razor Sharp!!!

any big game animal in north america can be ethically taken using #60 or less. it is all about shot placement. use a weight you can pull back gracefully and quiet . it would be a shame to scare a big 60" moose or a 6x6 elk out of range because you couldnt pull your bow back quietly.

the biggest one you can pull back with out any problems. but it dosn't matter unless you can make a good shot
