On our way into Kingsville, this bird was standing in the ditch about 10 miles from town.
About two hours later, on our way home, he and his cohorts were STILL THERE!

Rolled up on these guys a little over an hour ago, they were in the road at first but moved up on the bank about 20 feet from me. They ignored the truck for the most part, two of them duked it out a bit as the others had their nose right in the middle.

Colors were much better in person.

Gosh, Fitch, all these good shots you're getting, you could put together a whole turkey nature program! I don't think Marty Stouffer ever did a turkey episode, did he?

              That is absolutely awesome fitch270!
I had 6 move into a similar venue about three years ago and go through the same routine.
I suppose with the vehicle idling, you weren't able to hear much.
It was "woods quiet" when the six started their sparring match.
I've never heard such a racket in my entire life!
One of these days, if I can get everything line out, I'd like to try calling in a gobbler with "fighting purrs".
I've tried it once, almost succeeded but a barbed wire fence got in his way.

              Great pictures!

Once my extra fingers finish growing out, I'll be able to do fighting purrs no problem -- plus soft purrs, yelps, and everything else, all at the same time!

I'm already counting the money I'm gonna make on the calling-contest circuit.

Are you sure the extras won't disqualify you for the "standard calling" category?
I think you'll still be okay for the "Open" forum.

...OR... you could just disguise the extra fingers as "secondary strikers"!
Just be careful not to wave at the crowd during the award ceremony.

Which category has the greatest purse?

I just showed these to the Kid, he noticed right off the jake fan in back and the long beard. Appears we have three juvenile delinquents harassing a lone elder.

Downside of trying to get pics is you don’t actually “see” what’s going on at the time.

ID:	770530 A friend in NY was scouting in his usual place and all he saw was 3 hens.
Has he ever forgot to roll the window down before he shot at one?

Yeah, it’s in the mid 40’s today so the passenger side window was up as well, but I did see one stretch it’s head out like it was gobbling at one point.

I had this happen during the season a few years back, had a good tom coming in for about a half hour, about 75 yards out all heck broke loose when 4 jakes cut him off from out of no where. I ended up killing one of them about an hour later after repositioning.

All I got of the fight was video. Fortunately my camera has a "video to still" conversion setting.

After the fight, this guy came over under a pecan grove and put on his own show.

ID:	770581 There is a distinct possibility that one or two of the "fighters" could be one or both of the two birds in my avatar. 😀
