When duck hunting on a large reservoir, do you go to an island or point in the big water or look for shallower back water coves? Or does that depend on the time of year and weather conditions? Thanks.

Everywhere I have ever been, waterfowl that end up in bays are flying in front of a storm, headed for points South.
Watch for the jet stream looping down on the TV weather map..
You want to be there when the leading edge of the storm reaches your hunting place.
Get on the lee side of a peninsula in deep water for divers.
The lee side in shallower water for honkers and Mallards.
