Going after resident Canadas Saturday on narrow slow water overlooking a field with ponds nearby. What decoy and calling tactics should I use?

Use 1 1/2-2 dozen of your best looking decoys. You dont need to do much calling. Just enouph to get and keep their attention.

Locals are much easier to hunt. With them, the most important thing is to pattern exactly where they go to eat. They will usually land in grass, grain or picked corn fields until the food is depleted. Use 6-18 decoys and unless you really know how to talk goose, you can be completely quite. Although locals are pretty dumb toward humans, they still have no patience for human squawking on a goose call.

Next make sure that you are well hidden, don't move and don't allow human markers (like expended shotgun shells or shell boxes) to lie around the area. They will usually come to the decoys or at least give them a good swing before landing. They seem to think the decoys have found an area with plentiful food and fall for that almost every time. Call to get their attention then shut up. Place a pair of deeks together about ten yards ahead of and to one side of rest. One should be a sentry. Do not put deeks all facing same direction. If using a layout blind use a flag to get their attention at a distance then put it away.
