Don't shoot at them. Ever. Plant wild rice. Plant Chufas. This will attract ducks, turkeys, and deer. Plant corn around the pond for as far as you control the land. Bushhog mebbe half of it, or whatever is nearest the pond immediately before the first freezing cold weather.

If you can fined somewheres that has like bulk and get a bag of corn just throw it in the pond it usualy keeps them coming back.

Yes, check out the link below for plans along with maintenance and location suggestions. Weather fronts do have a dramatic impact on activity and migration. But, the location has to be right for them to drop in!
Happy hunting!

Thanks BeeKeeper. That was an incredible hunt. I think it had something to do with the cold weather. When we saw them it was either overcast/rainy and in the 30s-40s, or it was 13 degrees. As for the duck boxes, we do not have them currently, is there a particular place that is better to put them?

You must be doing something right. Keep up what ever practices you currently have in place. If you don't have nest boxes for wood ducks consider adding them this year. In the lower piedmont area we were dry as a bone and have been for several years. I don't know when I've seen 50 mallards in spot in my area...

Last year was a record year at our duck pond. I live in north GA, and we were seeing up to fifty mallards, ten woodies, and around twenty teal. Is there anything we can do to keep them coming back?Tags: None
