Does anyone else pack a safety vest in their pack to wrap around a turkey after you shoot it? I always have even on private property, because safety is priority and people will be able to see me walking out the woods.

It's always better to be Smart and Safe than Shot...........

That's a smart thing to do... But if you're in orange and holding a bird and someone shoots you, I don't think it would make a difference if there was a vest on the bird or not... If he's that dumb it's probably gonna happen regardless.

I carry either an orange hat or vest and some surveyor's tape on public land. Before setting up, I reach as high as I can and run tape around the tree. I don't know if it would spook a bird or not, but it's better than calling in some Nimrod who shoots toward the sound.

Yes, the Orange on the tree would alarm a turkey.

I never though about this because it seem slike a good idea or even orange marking tape. Good idea.

Orange tape and an orange hat happens when on public land or any land where I think there might be other hunters around.

On public land I also mark the tree with tape. I will take a spooked bird over a load of birdshot. Although I do not find that it spooks many birds. In the National Forest flagging tape can be found all over the place from previous logging operations and surveys; its simply part of the surroundings. I also wear a blaze cap anytime I am walking because lets face it if a turkey catches you walking its probably going to the next area code blaze hat or not.
