What is the best pistol to use on wild hogs.

I use a Ruger SBH on deer but I'd go with the SRH so that I've got double action. I don't want to worry about pulling the hammer back if a hog turns on me. My all around preference for hog hunting is a 12 guage for run and gun or my deer rifle if stand hunting.

The only two I have ever shot was a medium sized sow and a big boar. They both caught a single 125 gr. Sierra from my .357 which was the only handgun I owned at that time. Both were head shots causing the animals to drop in their tracks under my deer stand. Today I would use my .44 mag with a 265 gr hard cast wide meplat bullet.

Ruger Raging Bull with a 6 in barrel just to overdo it a little. Oh yeah, with a scope.

Use any 40 cal or larger magnum with heavy for caliber hard caste or soft point bullets. Stay away from hollow points you need something that will penetrate well.

BTW On my Uncle's cattle ranch in Central Fla we considered them to be vermin to shoot on sight.

I have used a .44 mag successfully for years. No hollowpoints please...

I own a S&W Model 19 in 357 magnum and with good handloads with good bullets would not be afraid to use it for hogs.
