Is a Beretta Extrema 2 a good turkey gun?

  • #2
I have no experience with that particular Beretta. However, any 12 or 20 guage can become a good turkey gun simply by buying an extended turkey choke tube and using specialized turkey ammo. A great turkey gun would be a 3.5 inch 12 (or 10) with high quality sights, a turkey choke and heavy shot turkey ammo. Also helps to have the gun camo'd. Mine is a Benelli SBE Parkerized in Olive drab with Comp'n extended choke tube. I use Rem high density turkey loads. They are expensive but 2 or 3 shells will do for a season.

Forgot to add that older guns that have fixed chokes are best used with Federals new turkey load. I understand it shoots very tight patterns even with guns that are not full choke. The Fed load does not pattern as well as the Rem load in my gun with XXfull choke.

Yes. I have an Xtrema II that I use for both goose and turkey. IMHO, it is the best semi-auto shotgun on the market. The gun is expensive I believe it may a little cheaper than its closest competition, the Benelli SBE 2.

3 inch shells are plenty for turkeys; no need for 3.5.
