I'm thinkin about putting in for moose this year and the largest rifle I own is a 7mm weatherby and I shoot 175 noslers out of it at 2990fps do you think that will be enough?

If an '06 will do it so will your 7 mm Wea., in fact the 7 mm Rem is a very popular all around gun in the west so you are a little ahead of the game in that regard. Just put that Nosler right in the boiler room first shot.

you will have no problem with that load. The 7mm is very popular and your Weatherby will do it that much better.

Several years ago was looking for an all around Big Game caliber with lower recoil for the wife was told 6.5x55swede or 7mm-08 I said for moose and elk too? and was told absolutely yes so from what I have been told you should be Golden. Heck I was told that my 06 w/165's can get the job done(not that brave would use 180 or 200)Hope I wasn't mis-lead because I would feel really bad if I said something that was flawed and messed up somebody's hunt of a lifetime

Some of you guys might not remember stories that I used to post about my old friend Bill from right here in Wyoming. He has a room full of North American trophies from the Rio Grande to central Alaska. All were take with his '06/165 except for one Kodiak. He used his '06 on the other three Kodiaks, the huge Yukon moose, and all his Shiras moose (or is it meese?) plus everything else. This old S & W Howa with a bent Redfield is the only rifle he owns. So never unestimate the gun if the owner can shoot or in Bill's case is not even a particularily good shot. Lucky is far better than good.

You shouldn't have any problems at all. The 175 grain will not have a problem taking down a moose.

If an Eskimo can drop a Moose with 30-30 with a 170 grain bullet you can take down a moose with a 7mm Nosler only if you can shoot “MOP” at the range you’re shooting!!

Yes it would work as long as you are within killing range. Don't take like 300 yard shots. stick with 100-200 yards.

ya a 7mm mag will be fine, and i would even shoot up to 400 yards with it.

Plenty of gun, you should have no problems.

Plenty, but hey, it never hurts to buy a new rifle.

Probably won't even need that gun's long-range capability anyways, moose are in the thick stuff. Always though it was funny how the biggest widest most awkward deer was always in the thickest, nastiest country you can find.

30-06 has probably taken more Alaskan moose than any other caliber. Better to take a smaller rifle you shoot well than a bigger gun you are not as familiar with.

if your hunting moose in the lower 48 ,that 7mm with 175 gr bullets will be fine, just remember behind the front shoulders.
